Hardened Edition, why you need it! - There is a Hardened Edition available for MW3, the standard edition is generally priced at $60 while Hardened is $100, what's the difference, besides 40 of my hard earned dollars. If you are into online multi-player, Hardened Edition is definitely for you! Hardened Edition you not only get a special hard case, field journal, and other goodies, but 1 Year of access to Call of Duty Elite which sells for $50 on its own and includes an entire year of DLC access. Now gamers on forums are saying “Oh that’s only a $10 difference” I.e. $59 + $50 vs. $99, but consider the fact that with Call of Duty Elite Membership you are going to get every DLC for 9 months, and it’s been reported that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is going to release A NEW DLC MAP PACK EVERY MONTH, the DLC is valued at around $60, plus you get founders status for Hardened Edition which also has some special access and special events. At that rate, you are getting lots of additional content you are going to be buying anyways! I would say that the Hardened Edition is the real bonus content available for Modern Warfare 3!
The other option if you haven't pre-ordered Hardened Edition is to purchase the Standard Edition and purchase the Call of Duty Elite Premium Membership, the free edition includes all the stat tracking and video uploads see the Elite website for more information

UPDATE! As of 11-1-11 8:30PM Mountain Time, all retailers are showing the Hardened Edition as Not Available online right now. Amazon had 7 Xbox 360 & 4 Playstation 3 available, they range from $200 to $300, they are from independent people, most likely re-selling their pre-order, so it will most likely ship to them first. I talked to my local Best Buy store and they have reached their limit on the Hardened Edition, they will have a few that are first come first serve when they open the store at midnight, my store also has a tournament that night.

If you love Call of Duty, then this is your game. If you have already bought Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, you shouldn't even be reading this. I have always been on the fence. After CoD 2, the single player of every game that followed, even CoD 4, was just a light gun game. You are continually led on rails to every checkpoint by bullet hose spraying enemies. There is no actual squad or enemy AI to speak of, they all just fire blindly and never reload. I know there are a few people who still play these games for the story mode, but I don't. I'm not going to go on too long because these things come out every year so there's not much new to explain.
ReplyDeleteI've always enjoyed the over the top action in the Call of Duty single player campaigns, and they expose you to all the hand held weapons that you will use in the game. It's partially a training for the multi-player, which is a very nice feature. They have also changed spec ops mode to include rank and a survival mode. In survival you play on the same maps as multi player with the same weapons, also a very good training ground.
