If you already have great class setups that allow you to get a lot of kills going, you should be ok, but maybe one or two of these tips will help.
Class setup:
Basic principle for free for all: the faster you can get bullets into your opponent the more face to face battles you will win, I like to have at least one assault rifle class and 2 classes that are "fast movers". By fast movers I mean light weapons (sub machine guns and shotguns).
For my assault class I like to use something automatic with a sight that lets me make kills at medium range, usually red dot or holographic. For this class I usually make my secondary weapon the stinger so that I have a class that can shoot down an enemy kill streak, the right kill streak can give your enemy the game. I like to use Sleight of Hand, Quickdraw and Marksman, lets me kill the enemy faster. For your equipment use the lethal that you are best at. Use the tactical that can disable your opponent and get you a kill while he tries to figure out what happened. Death Streak I like Juiced because it gets me back into the action quick, but you could also use Martyrdom (drop a live grenade at death) or Dead Man's Hand (last stand with C4, video example here). I have been using the Assault Strike package, unless you are very good at battling 7 others, don't expect to earn anything really high. Otherwise see below for Specialist Strike package tips.
For my "fast mover" classes I like to have as primary weapons the PP90M1, P90 or AA-12, but of course use what gets you kills quickest, these 3 are very good at delivering maximum destruction to the target. For the secondary weapon any of the machine pistols (FMG9, MP9, Skorpion or G18) on akimbo (dual wield) will do, switching to these secondary weapons can get you a kill when you're out of ammo on your primary. (Remember Soap, it's quicker to go to your secondary than to reload). For primary attachments on the sub machine guns I like to use the attachment proficiency (gets you two attachments like Bling used to). If you have them use Rapid Fire and Red Dot or Holographic sight, gives you lots of bullets accurately, the sight will give you more range because on bigger maps you will get more medium range kills. For perks I like Extreme Conditioning, Hardline (quicker strike package) or Quickdraw (faster aiming) and Marksman. For equipment, tactical and death streaks refer to the above. For the strike package I go with Specialist on my "fast mover" classes, specialist gets you any perk that you are not already using in your class setup in lieu of killstreak type rewards, they are rewarded at 2, 4, & 6 kills, if you reach 8 kills you earn double points on kills.
For me the principle of the Specialist Strike package the principle is what additional classes will extend your killstreak and make you a better player, and get you enough kills to place in the competition. Currently on my sub machine gun class I have been using Sleight of Hand, Scavenger, and Stalker. When I earn my first reward I reload faster, making me less of a target when I'm out of ammo, second reward gets me Scavenger which lets me pick up new ammo, meaning I won't run out due to staying alive for so long (and you won't have to try and grab a weapon left on the ground, it can take just long enough in free for all to get you killed), the third reward is Stalker, it allows me to move faster while aiming, a definite plus when going one on one with 7 other players.
Earlier I played a Free for All match with PP90M1 with Red Dot & Rapid Fire, and Extreme Conditioning, Quickdraw & Marksman as primary perks with Sleight of Hand, Scavenger and Stalker as my Specialist Streaks. I was able to earn an 11 kill streak, pretty long in free for all, unless you are already a really good player. Try it out, I think it will benefit you, have fun in tonight's competition.
